Industrial laundering is becoming an increasingly important part of professional workwear management. Rental services, healthcare institutions, hotels, electronics manufacturers and catering companies are moving toward centralized washing to improve hygiene, operational efficiency and garment management.
This change is raising the technical requirements placed on workwear fabrics. A fabric must do more than tolerate occasional washing: it must maintain its appearance, dimensions, structure and required functionality after repeated high-temperature washing and mechanical drying.
Different industries place different demands on their uniforms. Medical and catering garments may prioritize hygiene and frequent care, while industrial and electronics workwear may also require durability, comfort or additional protective functions.
Despite these differences, they share one requirement: consistent performance throughout repeated industrial laundry cycles.
As labor, energy and garment-replacement costs continue to rise, conventional 50-cycle washability may no longer provide the service life required by some centralized laundry programs. Extending fabric durability to 70 industrial washes can help reduce replacement frequency and lower the overall cost per wear.
The challenge, however, is not simply increasing the number of washes. The fabric must continue to meet the agreed performance criteria after those cycles.
Industrial laundering subjects fabrics to a combination of thermal, mechanical and chemical stresses that are significantly more demanding than ordinary domestic washing.
Depending on the industry and hygiene requirements, industrial washing temperatures may range from 40°C to 95°C.
Repeated exposure to heat, water, detergents and mechanical agitation can affect:
-
Dimensional stability
-
Surface appearance
-
Color performance
-
Fabric strength
-
Functional finishes
-
Garment shape
Controlling these changes requires careful coordination between fiber selection, fabric construction, dyeing, finishing and heat-setting processes.
After washing, garments may pass through tunnel-drying systems operating at approximately 60°C to 160°C.
This repeated thermal exposure can increase the risk of shrinkage, deformation, surface damage and performance deterioration. Industrial washable fabrics must therefore be engineered for both the washing process and the subsequent drying process.
Evaluating wash resistance without considering tunnel drying does not fully represent the actual service conditions of centralized laundry programs.
A fabric may perform well during its first few washes but gradually lose stability as the number of cycles increases.
The technical objective is to control cumulative change. After repeated laundering, the fabric should still maintain an acceptable appearance, dimensional stability, structural integrity and application-specific performance.
For this reason, “70 washes” should not be treated as an isolated marketing number. It must be evaluated together with the selected washing procedure, drying conditions and post-laundering acceptance criteria.
Modern workwear is becoming more fitted, flexible and comfortable. Stretch fabrics are increasingly used to improve freedom of movement and support more contemporary garment designs.
However, conventional elastic fibers may be sensitive to repeated high-temperature washing and tunnel drying. Continuous exposure to heat can affect elasticity, increase deformation and reduce shape recovery.
The technical challenge is therefore to combine two properties that are not always easy to achieve together:
Industrial wash resistance and lasting stretch performance.
Ganlion develops industrial washable fabrics as a complete performance system rather than focusing on wash count alone.
The solution is engineered around four key requirements:
Ganlion industrial washable fabrics are developed for washing conditions ranging from 40°C to 95°C, supporting different centralized laundry and hygiene requirements.
The fabrics are designed to accommodate high-temperature tunnel-drying processes from approximately 60°C to 160°C, with attention to dimensional control, appearance retention and structural stability.
According to the selected fabric specification and approved laundering procedure, Ganlion solutions can be developed for 50 to 70 industrial wash cycles.
After repeated mechanized washing and drying, the objective is to maintain the fabric’s agreed appearance and performance within the defined acceptance requirements.
For stretch workwear, Ganlion uses high-temperature-resistant modified polyester elastic-fiber technology.
Compared with conventional stretch solutions, this approach is designed to provide:
-
Greater stability under high-temperature washing and drying
-
A lower risk of permanent deformation
-
Durable stretch and shape recovery
-
Improved comfort and freedom of movement
-
A cleaner, more form-fitting garment appearance
This allows industrial uniforms to achieve a more modern fit without sacrificing compatibility with demanding laundry processes.
Industrial washability depends on more than fiber content. Reliable performance requires the entire fabric system—including construction, dyeing, finishing and thermal stabilization—to be developed around the intended washing route.
The final solution should therefore be selected according to:
-
Garment application
-
Washing temperature
-
Detergent and chemical process
-
Drying temperature and method
-
Required number of cycles
-
Post-laundering performance criteria
-
Comfort and stretch requirements
Ganlion works with customers to align these variables before fabric selection and testing. This helps ensure that the fabric is matched to the real operating conditions of the uniform program.
For centralized laundry operators and professional uniform programs, a longer-lasting fabric can reduce premature garment replacement and improve consistency throughout the service cycle.
Ganlion® industrial washable fabrics combine high-temperature washability, tunnel-drying resistance and extended wash durability. Stretch options further support the move toward more comfortable and fashionable workwear.
The result is not simply a fabric that can be washed repeatedly, but a technical workwear solution engineered to remain dependable throughout its intended service life.
